Tariq Abdul-Malik, PhD Candidate (The University of Georgia)

Brother Tariq was born Muslim and has lived in Georgia since he was 11 years old. As a youth he competed in basketball, baseball, football, swimming, track and field, and cross country. Br. Tariq attended Morehouse College and earned his bachelors of science in biology. Later, he went on to pursue his master’s degree in science education at Mercer University. He has also completed all of his coursework towards his Ph.D. in education administration and policy from the University of Georgia with only his dissertation remaining.

Br. Tariq has extensive experience working in the field of K-12 education. He has taught in Atlanta Public Schools, Dekalb County Schools, Fulton County Schools, and was science department chair at a charter school. Beyond K-12 education, Br. Tariq also has experience at the post-secondary level. In addition to his work here in America, he has also taught science abroad for two years at Al Faisal University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Br. Tariq has also taught English as a Second Language at the Interactive College of Technology.

Br. Tariq is a strong proponent of community development. He has volunteered as a science fair judge for both Dar Un Noor and Ilm Academy. He was an after school tutor and has refereed a basketball tournament at Masjid Omar. He helped plant fruit tree orchards at both Masjid Abdullah and Risala Gardens. He is the current scout master at Al Falah Academy and also was the Director of the Summer Camp at Al Falah last year. He also has served on the boards of SHARE Atlanta and Risala Institute where he was both a founding board member and treasurer.

Above all, Br. Tariq is most proud of making Hajj in 2012 (1432 A.H), being a husband for over 14 years, and being the father of 7 children (two of whom he was personally able to deliver). When he is not with his family or involved in community projects, Bro. Tariq enjoys competing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and studying Islam. Br. Tariq is very excited about joining the Hamzah academy community and is most eager to implement experiential learning, S.T.E.M education, and after school enrichment programs. Br. Tariq is currently the Founder and C.E.O of Makkah International Institute LLC.

Miraj Khan

Sr. Miraj Khan is originally from south India and has lived in Atlanta, Georgia for twenty years. She was always interested in working with children so, she pursued a career in Education. She finds it especially wonderful to work in an Islamic environment and make a difference in young lives. Sr Miraj is our Administrative Assistant and has been part of our team since 2012-13 academic year. She has earned an Associate degree from Gwinnett Technical College in Psychology, Computer Science and Pre-Nursing in pursuit of nursing career in pediatrics to fulfill her passion for helping children and their education. She pursued a career in education and earned Child Development Associate (CDA) certification which is a BFTS requirement for child care facilities. In addition to the above Sr. Miraj is also certified by numerous professional organizations as follows:Evaluation of Self-esteem in Young Children.

Prior to joining Hamzah Academy Sr. Miraj has worked in Georgia Pre-K centers accumulating 6 years of experience including office administration. Currently she is responsible for maintaining all records including financial, tuition, Georgia Tax Credit, bill payment, vendors interface, student records, answering services, inventory, curriculum orders, supplies, fire drills and substituting teachers as needed.

Hanan Abotones

Sr Hanan Abotones is from Hoon Libya and has taught Arabic language and Quran at Hoon High School and at Al-Rouad Elementary School in Libya. She holds a Bachelor's degree in the Arabic language and Islamic studies from the University of Khaleij Sert in Libya with 6 years of teaching experience in Libya and 6 years of experience in Atlanta. She has taught at Masjid Hamzah's Sunday school, RCM Kalimat-ul-Quran Program and Green Apple School. She has been teaching Arabic language and Quran at Hamzah Academy for three years and this is her third year as an Arabic Level 3 teacher and fourth year as an elementary Quran teacher. Her love to teach shows as she trains students in the Hifz program to memorize the Holy scriptures. She loves children and is very passionate about teaching them the language of the Holy Quran. Her goal to make learning fun for students so they want to learn.

Lina Thabet

Lina is an Arabic and Quran teacher at Hamzah Academy. She holds a degree in child development from Jordon. She also took courses in teaching Quran and Arabic. With over fourteen years of teaching experience at Pre-schools and Sunday schools in Jordon and in the USA, she brings expertise in working with children. Sr Lina believes in catering to the individual needs of her young students so that each of them will have a firm grasp of the Arabic language and Quran Inshaa Allah.

Nahida Abu Adas

Sr Nahida Abu Adas studied at Damascus University in Damascus, Syria graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Arabic and English Studies. She also obtained a two-year certificate (Diploma) in teaching. Sr Nahida started her teaching career at United Nations schools in Syria for 23 years. She joined Hamzah Academy last year teaching Arabic and Quran for Hifz Program, Kindergarten and Arabic Level one. Currently she is teaching PreK 2 and Quran to elementary students. She has been involved in teaching Arabic, Quran and Islamic Studies in the community.

Khelda Javaid

Sr Khelda Javaid was born in Pakistan and has lived in Atlanta for 7 years. She is a graduate of Islamia University Bahawalpur in Pakistan with a degree in education, and also holds a master’s degree in Arabic. She lived in Canada where she was a teacher for Pre-K students. During this time, she also further strengthened her computer and language skills by attending college classes and earning a degree in child development. After moving to Atlanta, she worked with Georgia pre-k students for three years and she also has also been working as a substitute in elementary schools for the past two years. She has also done lots of volunteer work at elementary schools throughout her life. She actively participated in extracurricular activities during her student life and continues to have a deep interest in religious education. She frequently attends lectures and courses to improve and strengthen her knowledge of Islam.

Sr Khelda has four children. She has spent a lot of time volunteering at their schools and helping them with extracurricular activities. She has a lot of experience with children of all ages and different kinds of extracurricular activities.

In her free time she likes to spend time with her family, garden, cook, and read books. Gardening is a passion for the whole family. As a mother, her children have provided her firsthand experience on how to prepare a Muslim child to recognize the fact that he\she, along with other human beings, are Allah’s servants. She also believes that parents play a very important role in the formal education and training of their children. The school and home are two primary intuitions responsible for the nurturing and education of our children .They should work closely together to provide a secure and nurturing environment for children to grow and prosper in. It is her goal is to help her students develop a strong Islamic personality through the teaching of Islamic values.

Zahra Muhammad

Sr Zahra grew up in Beirut, Lebanon where she completed her elementary, middle and high school education from reputable schools. She holds a dual degree of M.B.B.S (Bachelor's in Medicine and Bachelor's in Surgery) as well as an MBA in Health Management and Hospital Administration from Karachi-Pakistan. She is fluent in three languages, Arabic, English, and Urdu and intermediate in French. She has a diverse work experience with children, working as a physician, teacher's assistant, tutor, care giver, as well as a parent. She is in the process of getting certified, as she promises to work side by side with your child helping them learn and grow in their education. Her mission as a teacher includes catering to the needs of your child in his/her social and behavioral development, by providing them with an ongoing support and guidance which they may need in an Islamic environment.

Malika Bouhafs

Sr Malika Bouhafs has a Bachelor's degree in French Literature from the University of Constantine in Algeria. She has been in the early childhood field since 2004 and is currently a toddler room teacher at Hamzah Academy. She is married, has two daughters and has lived in Alpharetta for the past 11 years. She enjoys and loves working with children and helping them learn, play, and grow from an early age. She looks forward to helping your child learn and grow at Hamzah Academy.

Souhad Ali Gamil

Sr. Souhad has completed her high school in France. She obtained a degree in Office Admisnitratrion at Pierce College in California. She has twenty years of child care experience, and has worked in child care programs at Brimarsh Academy and Green Apple Academy. She loves working with people of all ages, specifically little children. She has five kids of her own and knows very well what it takes to raise and take care of them. Sr. Souhad is a hard worker and never stops working until the job is done. She has good communication skills which hleps her interact well with both, adults and children of all ages.

Hadil Salman

Sr. Hadil is a new member of the Hamzah family as she has just moved here three weeks ago from Columbus, OH. She is from Palestine and has studied History for two years in a college there. Sr. Hadil has three children and is happily married. She holds a year's experience in working at a child care after which she had joined a Muslim school, "Zenith Learning East" as a lead pre-school teacher for two years. We are happy to have her here and InshaAllah she will continue to give her best at nurturing the children at Hamzah Academy.

Sarah Noman

Sr. Sarah Noman has been with Hamzah Academy for 5 years, Alhumdulillah. She is a PreK 1 teacher and brings over 7 years of experience teaching Pre-K children from her work at McGinnis Woods School and Ilm Academy. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a diploma in Early Childhood Education from Lanier Technical College with First Aid and CPR certification. Sr Sarah enjoys seeing her students grow into confident individuals and holds high expectations for her students.

Lina Thabet

Lina is an Arabic and Quran teacher at Hamzah Academy. She holds a degree in child development from Jordon. She also took courses in teaching Quran and Arabic. With over fourteen years of teaching experience at Pre-schools and Sunday schools in Jordon and in the USA, she brings expertise in working with children. Yasmin Shaikh

Sr Yasmin Shaikh is happily married and blessed with three wonderful children. Her educational background includes a professional certification in early childhood learning and care, a diploma in teacher’s training and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from India. Sr Yasmin has 10 years of teaching experience with children from reputed schools in Dubai (U.A.E) and Mumbai, India. She is First Aid and CPR certified and feels honored to be associated with Hamzah Academy in achieving its goal in educating children that will excel to become productive Muslim members of society. Her philosophy for learning is that each child is unique, and each child learns in a different way to discover his or her individuality.

Nahida Abu Adas

Sahar Mohsin

Sr Sahar Mohsin has a Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences and is currently in the process of obtaining a Teaching Certificate, inshaAllah. It is her first year teaching at Hamzah Academy and has taught at Sunday school at Islamic Center of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She enjoys working with children and loves the teaching profession. Sr Sahar strives to instill the love of learning for all of her students and is excited to be part of the Hamzah team.

Sumya Tariq

Sr Sumya Tariq has been teaching at Hamzah Academy for three years. She was raised and educated in New York City and holds an Associate’s degree in science from Nassau Community College and a Bachelor’s degree in speech and language disorders from Queens College. Sr Sumya is a Georgia state certified teacher and has over twelve years of experience in the education system both in public and private schools from pre-k to elementary school. Her dedication shows as she tries to ensure that each child grows academically and socially in a nurturing, warm and safe environment. Her strengths are assuring that every child receives individualized attention because she believes teaching is great when students learn to read and write and become young adults.

Tameema Ahmed

Sr. Tameema from university of North Georgia has been in Georgia almost her whole life and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, while double minoring in Arabic and English. While still in college, she was chosen by her professors to be the head tutor in an Arabic summer program. Sr. Tameema also has much experience tutoring in other subjects, ranging from math to English. She had the opportunity to teach Art in ILM Academy for a semester where she learned about teaching strategy and classroom management. She also subbed at a Montessori school in Cumming where she got a chance to become familiar with the different teaching approaches. She is working on her teaching accreditation so she can help continue to teach and help children attain their academic goals. Sr. Tameema comes from a family of teachers and professors, so being an educator runs in her blood. She has spent her whole life surrounded by children of all ages and has a natural knack for interacting with and engaging them. Having been in the American education system from start to finish, she always had an enthusiasm for school that she hopes to inspire in her students.

Sr. Tameema volunteered at a Hamzah Academy spelling bee and was very impressed with the efficiency and overall familiar environment of the school. She is excited to be a part of a professional and dedicated team of teachers.

In her free time she enjoys art, reading, and spending quality time with her husband.

Dania Mahayni

Sr. Dania Mahayni began teaching Arabic and Quran for Prek-1 at Hamzah Academy daily school when it opened in the Fall of 2010 through the Spring of 2012. She has also taught Arabic, Quran, and Islamic Studies in the Hamzah Sunday School from 2004-2012. Being an instructional member of the Hamzah Community is a very important part of her Dawaa. This is her first year teaching Third Grade. Working at Hamzah Academy has been an extremely rewarding experience for her. Her passions for performance, creativity and making a positive contribution to society are all easily achieved as a Hamzah Academy educator.

Sr Dania has been in Atlanta since 1978. She graduated from Woodward Academy in 1993 Magna Cum Laude. She also graduated from Georgia State University in 1997 with a BBA in Finance Magna Cum Laude and a minor in Arabic from Emory University. Upon graduating from College, she worked for Atlantic States Bank where she focused on sales and customer service. Dania then went to work for one of the top money managers at Prudential Securities where she helped service client accounts, produced monthly progress reports on portfolio and total asset values, and gained critical customer service skills. After an eight year hiatus to have her three children, Dania came back to work in the 2009-2010 school year for Greenapple Academy where she taught the two year old toddlers. In 2012-2014, she ran a work at home business that involved customer service, speaking with and assisting sales representatives, and managing client accounts.

Ferheen Syed

Sr Ferheen Syed has a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design and is working towards obtaining a Teacher Certification. She has experience in tutoring and understands how students need guidance to stay on the Right Path to achieve their goals. This is her first year at Hamzah Academy teaching 4th grade and is very excited to be part of such a great team.
